Our circular labels symbolize our infinite passion for wine, family &  tradition,             &  the intricate ties that have forged them.

Since Ernst subscribes to the French philosophy that the quality of the grape is inextricably linked to the "terroir", he travels to various regions throughout the Western Cape and handpicks his grapes in the areas where they naturally grow at their very best.  We have immense respect for our partners who produce these grapes and cherish the relationships we`ve built over the years.  Their passion for producing quality grapes enables us to achieve our goal of creating and marketing our wines under the Ernst Gouws & Co label - wines that bear the signature of Ernst Gouws' seal of approval.

WHITE WINE

          SAUVIGNON BLANC

          SAUVIGNON BLANC

Winemaker's Notes:

A burst of tropical flavour.  Delicately-aromatic with floral overtones and perfume hints, this crisp and dry wine explodes into a tropical fruit burst in the mouth with guavas, mangoes and pineapple flavours  all taking centre stage.

Chef's Notes:

A lively fresh acidity and a quirky sherbet-lemon finish round off a crowd-pleasing wine which is great fun to drink on its   own or with a summer salad.

          NINETEENFIFTYTWO

          NINETEENFIFTYTWO

Winemaker's Notes:

A classic blend for a flagship white wine, the 1952 celebrates the sixtieth birthday of Ernst Gouws. Made up of equal amounts of two Bordeaux grape varieties, the sensitively-wooded Semillon component adds creamy spice and caramel top-notes to the crisply-fresh Sauvignon Blanc with its flavours of citrus peel and tropical fruit.

Chef's Notes:

A mouthful of elegant complexity.  Complex and layered with great balancing acidity and a lengthy finish, this is a masterful wine which deserves only the finest seared salmon steak or fragrant roast chicken to offset it to perfection. .

              CHENIN BLANC

              CHENIN BLANC

Winemaker's Notes:

Zippy, zesty all-day sipper.  Gloriously upfront and out-there mouthful of fresh, crisp grapefruits and limes with hints of litchi and guava.

Chef's Notes:

A wonderful balance of fruit and acidity with an unexpected but very pleasing richness in the middle make this a perfect food wine partner with any fish dish or fresh summer salad.

               CHARDONNAY

               CHARDONNAY

Winemaker's Notes:

Peaches and cream in a glass.  A lighty-wooded chardonnay made in a versatile and food-friendly style, this wine is elegant yet rich with delicate tones of stone-fruit, orange peel and fresh almonds.

Chef's Notes:

Hints of vanilla spice and toffee blend well with refreshing acidity and the just-dry finish makes this a great partner for a classic Cape Malay curry or a creamy Chicken Korma.

RED WINES

                    SHIRAZ

                    SHIRAZ

Winemaker's Notes:

A South African classic.  Oodles of flavours and aromas on this classic example of South Africa’s very own grape. Ripe black and red berries vie with spice and coffee hints, baked meats and dried herbs. The wine has soft, pliable tannins, a rich and weighty mid-palate and an endless finish.

Chef's Notes:

Ideal with a smoky, braaied game steak for a classic South African combination.

                   MERLOT

                   MERLOT

Winemaker's Notes:

A savoury masterpiece.  A richly-satisfying mouthful of dark plums and stewed fruit, this MMerlot is full of earthy flavours with dark chocolate hints, savoury dried meat and plenty of spicy highlights.

Chef's Notes:

Soft tannins and a rounded mouthfeel cry out to be served with hearty comfort food such as a beef casserole or a classic lamb potjie.

                PINOT NOIR

                PINOT NOIR

Winemaker's Notes:

With multiple layers of flavour – red cherries, dark chocolate and dark plums – this wine is enlivened and given character by deft use of gentle oak adding spicy cloves, cinnamon and vanilla into the mix.

Chef's Notes:

Juicy, soft tannins and a clean, racy acidity make this the finest partner for rich terrines or pates as well as crispy, seared duck.
